The “use what you have in the fridge” project

In the past few month, I realized that we lived way too “luxurious” when it comes to food. Both of us -my Husband and I- love to eat and try new cuisines & restaurants, and it means that minimum twice a week we had lunch or dinner at a restaurant somewhere. When we sat down and roughly calculated how much we spent on this kind of culinary joys, we were shocked. It’s easy to get lost in Dubai’s gourmet scene, and sooner than you expect you get used to going out for eating every other day. 150 dirhams here, another 200 there, and in a few days you ate the amount of your DEWA bill…

Since Dubai is mostly about work and earn MONEY, you rarely have time for cleaning and cooking during the weekdays. So the fastfood “restaurants” and the foodcourts at the malls became your friend very easily. The portions are huge, the menus are full with unhealthy (but tasty) items. Once we got very sick after an ordinary Thursday night dinner, we decided to fully change our habits. I try my best to reserve some time -and power- after my working hours during the week, but most of the time I only cook properly at the weekends.

I love the fast and easy recipes, and we both prefer the italian style. Also it’s a very important point for me, to use ingridients as much as we can from our fridge, without doing an extra shopping round. That’s why I call my entry post in the cooking/baking section (what’s in the pot?) the “use what you have in the fridge” project.

I will share all my low-budget, but tasty and healthy recipes with you in the future! Keep following!
